£100 million. Sandro Tonali. Spurs. Everyone's already at each other's throats.

Yes, it's a blockbuster fee. Yes, he's an excellent footballer. Yes, the people saying "but we still need a creator like Wharton" are right. Yes, the people saying "stop pretending we don't already have Conor Gallagher" are also right. Both sides have a point — and both sides are arguing past each other instead of with each other.

Here's where I land. Tonali isn't supposed to solve everything. He's one of two midfield upgrades, not both. Pat Sarr looks gone. Palhinha isn't coming back. That's two seats to fill — Tonali takes one, and the deep-lying creator we've been screaming for takes the other. Gallagher becomes the versatile squad piece De Zerbi actually needs to survive a 38-game season.

The bit nobody's saying out loud: transfers don't happen in the order you'd like. Tonali isn't in the World Cup. That's why he's the conversation now. The creator we still need is a conversation for the rest of the window.

So stop getting pre-annoyed. Wait and see what the rest of the window looks like. Or get out the pitchforks at the end of it if Spurs only do half the job. Both are legitimate. Pre-annoyed is just exhausting.
