In New Jersey and beyond, the Hurley name is synonymous with basketball—and winning. Bob Hurley won dozens of state titles at St. Anthony’s in Jersey City; he’s one of just four high school coaches in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Bobby Hurley won two national titles at Duke, where he became and remains the all-time leader in assists in men’s basketball. And then there was Danny Hurley, Bobby’s younger brother, also a point guard. For Danny, the pressure to be the next great Hurley was immense—ultimately it helped make him the national champion coach you see today—but in the beginning it was a nearly unbearable burden.
