Should Alex Eala be punished for choosing to represent the Philippines?

On Episode 58 of The Big T Podcast, Mark Petchey and Andrea Petkovic discuss Eala’s decision to compete for her country at the Asian Games rather than play the mandatory WTA event in Beijing — a choice that could come with significant rankings and financial consequences.

For one of tennis’ fastest-rising young stars, Petch and Petko debate whether enforcing those penalties would be the right move or whether Eala deserves an exemption for representing her country on an international stage.

Plus, with Eala helping bring a new generation of Filipino fans to tennis, the WTA is expanding its presence in the Philippines with a new tournament in Manila.
