City started on the front foot and went ahead early thanks to a smart finish from academy graduate, Nico O'Reilly. Newcastle levelled through a deflected Hall shot, but it didn't take the Blues long to regain the lead after Erling Haaland provided a perfect cross for O'Reilly to score his second.

City had some more chances and Donnarumma was called into a late save, but the second half was goalless and City held on to a crucial win, to put the pressure on Arsenal and close the gap at the top of the league to two points.
