Ty has officially chosen NC State as his 2026 ACC pet team, despite multiple Wolfpack fans warning him not to touch the hot stove. The optimism starts with CJ Bailey, who returns at quarterback after making major strides as a vertical passer, and Jayden “Duke” Scott, a running back we think could be headed for a breakout season. NC State also made protecting Bailey a priority in the transfer portal, rebuilding the offensive line even if it meant leaving some uncertainty at receiver.

The bigger concern is a defense that has fallen dramatically from the standard Dave Doeren established earlier in his tenure, particularly when it comes to rushing the passer, limiting explosive plays and getting off the field on third down. But the schedule avoids Miami, SMU and Clemson and gives NC State plenty of manageable opportunities. Is this finally the year the Wolfpack reward Ty for believing, or is he walking directly into another trap?
