The Real Standard for Arm Holds: Possession Consequence or Let It Go
Basketball
The standard Coach Nick and I keep coming back to is simple: advantage/disadvantage and possession consequence.
If the hold doesn't affect the play, doesn't affect the ability to contest, and the ball goes where it was going anyway — that's probably not getting called. And honestly, that's the right call.
We saw slow mo of Hartenstein grabbing Wemby's arm, but we didn't see nearly as many replays of the mutual contact going the other way. That's the nature of broadcast. At live game speed, refs are calling what they see actually impact the play.
Could they clean some of it up? Sure. Will it be on the radar going forward? Absolutely. But in playoff basketball, you let them play unless the hold changes something real. #shorts
