One of the GREATEST Moments in Japan Volleyball History !!! Japan are the Kings of Asia once again!

In front of more than 6,500 passionate home fans at Kitakyushu City Gymnasium in Fukuoka, Japan delivered a championship performance to defeat Iran 3–0 in the gold-medal match of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship. The final score may look convincing, but this was an intense battle filled with pressure, spectacular attacks and dramatic finishes.

Japan opened the match with confidence, using their incredible speed, disciplined defense and powerful serving to take the first set 25–21. Iran refused to surrender and responded with much greater pressure in the second set. Both teams fought for every ball, but when the pressure reached its highest point, Japan remained calm and survived the dramatic ending to win 26–24.

The third set produced another fierce battle. Iran stayed within striking distance and continued searching for a way back into the match, but Japan refused to lose control. With the championship on the line, the hosts delivered in the decisive moments, closed the set 25–23 and completed an unforgettable straight-set victory.

Yuji Nishida was unstoppable in the final. Japan’s explosive opposite finished with 18 points, including three monster blocks and two service aces, while attacking at approximately 65 percent efficiency. Whenever Japan needed an important point, Nishida answered with his power, confidence and incredible left-handed attack.

Ran Takahashi was equally spectacular. The Japanese superstar scored 17 points, including 14 successful attacks and three aces, while recording approximately 61 percent attacking efficiency. His reception, serving, defense and fearless attacking made him one of the most influential players on the court.

Iran fought bravely until the final point. Opposite Ali Hajipour matched Nishida with 18 points, including four blocks and one ace, while Poriya Khanzadeh contributed 13 points with two aces and one block. Iran created several opportunities during the second and third sets, but Japan’s composure and execution in the biggest moments ultimately made the difference.

Setter Hideomi Fukatsu controlled Japan’s fast and unpredictable offense, constantly creating opportunities for Nishida, Takahashi and the Japanese middle blockers. Japan’s aggressive serving disrupted Iran’s reception, while their blocking, defense and transition play allowed them to take control whenever the match became dangerous.

Japan’s road to the championship began with an unexpected warning when Oman took a set from the hosts in their opening match. From that moment, Japan became unstoppable. They swept Bahrain and Australia in the pool phase, defeated India 3–0 in the quarterfinals, dominated South Korea 3–0 in the semifinals and completed their incredible journey with another sweep against Iran in the final.

Iran reached the championship match after defeating Australia 3–1 in the semifinals and entered the final ready to challenge Japan for Asian supremacy. However, Japan produced its strongest volleyball when it mattered most and once again overcame its greatest continental rival.

This was the third consecutive Asian Championship final between these two volleyball giants. Iran defeated Japan on Japanese soil in 2021, but Japan answered by defeating Iran in Iran in 2023. In 2026, Japan completed another chapter of this legendary rivalry by beating Iran at home and successfully defending the continental crown.

Ran Takahashi was named the tournament MVP after an outstanding championship. He was also selected for the tournament Dream Team alongside Japanese teammates Hideomi Fukatsu and Taishi Onodera. Iran’s Ali Hajipour, Poriya Khanzadeh and Seyed Eisa were also recognized for their excellent performances.

Japan entered the final carrying the expectations of an entire nation—and delivered. Yuji Nishida brought the power, Takahashi brought the brilliance, Fukatsu controlled the game and the entire Japanese team played with the heart of champions.

Japan defeated Iran 3–0 with set scores of 25–21, 26–24 and 25–23. Eleven Asian titles, a defended continental crown and a ticket to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games—Japan are champions of Asia once again!
