Tre Donaldson scored the final 15 points for Miami, including a go-ahead free throw with 12.5 seconds remaining. Virginia Tech's Ben Hammond lost his footing while driving to the basket for the game-winner, and the shot bounced off the rim. Miami got an edge over Virginia Tech by converting 13 offensive rebounds into 19 second-chance points. Donaldson finished the game with a career high 32 points on 13-24 shooting.
