The Cincinnati Bengals hit the road for the first time this season Sunday for an AFC matchup with the Houston Texans. Cincinnati enters Week 2 at 1-0 after a 33-27 victory over Tampa Bay, while Houston is trying to rebound from a 36-31 loss to Buffalo in its opener.

The biggest storyline for Cincinnati is Joe Burrow’s health. Burrow dealt with back tightness during the week and was limited Wednesday and Thursday before returning as a full participant Friday. He was officially listed as questionable, but head coach Zac Taylor said Burrow would play. Burrow himself downplayed the issue earlier in the week, describing it as normal soreness and saying it would not keep him off the field.
Assuming Burrow is behind center, Cincinnati’s offensive line faces a significantly different challenge than it did against Tampa Bay. The Bengals allowed only one sack in Week 1 and, according to Pro Football Focus data cited by the team, surrendered pressure on just 21.6 percent of their dropbacks, the lowest rate in the NFL. Now tackles Orlando Brown Jr. and Amarius Mims must contend with Houston edge rushers Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.
Getting Ja’Marr Chase more involved should also be a priority. Chase finished the opener with only two receptions, and Burrow acknowledged this week that Cincinnati cannot consistently allow one of its biggest offensive weapons to receive so few touches. Houston cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. gives the Bengals an intriguing matchup on the outside. Cincinnati Bengals
Houston has an important absence of its own. Star receiver Nico Collins is out with a hamstring injury after catching seven passes for 75 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo. That removes C.J. Stroud’s most dangerous receiving option and puts additional pressure on Houston’s other pass catchers to create explosive plays.
Cincinnati’s revamped defensive front could be important against Stroud. The Bengals forced four fumbles against Tampa Bay, and Houston had ball-security problems of its own in Week 1, with Stroud losing two fumbles.
For Cincinnati, Sunday provides an opportunity to build on a promising opener. A second straight victory would send the Bengals home at 2-0 while giving them an early conference win against a Houston team that has reached the playoffs in each of the previous three seasons.
