The pitching matchup features Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott against Milwaukee right-hander Dustin May. Abbott enters at 6-10 with a 4.43 ERA and 120 strikeouts over 152 1/3 innings. May is 6-9 with a 4.69 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 132 1/3 innings.

Abbott will be tasked with slowing down one of baseball's best offenses. Milwaukee enters the series ranked among MLB's top teams in OPS and runs scored, despite ranking last in baseball with only 137 home runs. The Brewers instead generate offense through consistent contact, getting on base and creating pressure with their speed. Milwaukee has also been dominant at home, carrying a 50-25 record at American Family Field.

Cincinnati's offense has a very different profile. The Reds have struggled to consistently score runs but rank among the National League leaders with 196 home runs. Elly De La Cruz has been particularly hot, going 17-for-37 with five home runs over his last 10 games. He also homered in five consecutive games entering Friday, providing one of Cincinnati's biggest bright spots during its recent struggles.

The Reds should at least have some confidence against Milwaukee after taking two of three from the Brewers at Great American Ball Park just last weekend. Cincinnati dropped the opener 10-7 before responding with 5-3 and 12-8 victories. Milwaukee, however, still leads the season series 7-3.

There is also plenty at stake for the Brewers. Milwaukee enters Friday with a 10-game lead in the NL Central and can officially clinch a postseason berth with a victory, or with losses by both San Diego and Arizona.

For Cincinnati, Friday represents an opportunity to regroup after being swept by the Dodgers and potentially play spoiler against a division rival. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET, with the game streaming exclusively on Apple TV.
