WCC Preview: Best Bets 2026-27

Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) and Cannabis Capper (@CannabisCapper) break down the new-look WCC basketball preview, with Gonzaga off to the Pac-12 and St. Mary's moving on without Randy Bennett. It ends with Cannabis Capper taking Seattle to win the league and Ryan McIntyre riding the Gaels.

This is preview 31 of 32, and the league looks a lot different. Gonzaga is gone, Wazzu and Oregon State are gone, Denver is in, and St. Mary's promoted McConnell after Randy Bennett left. Cannabis Capper expects a more up-tempo Gaels team, which raises the question of whether St. Mary's loses its identity in year one.

Stock up goes two directions. Cannabis Capper is all in on Chris Victor's Seattle, with Will Heim back after winning WCC Defensive Player of the Year and ranking sixth nationally in blocks, plus Mason Williams coming home from Iowa State. Ryan McIntyre likes San Diego under JR Blunt to fix a defense that ranked around 290th last year. On the stock down side, Cannabis Capper has St. Mary's finishing closer to third or fourth, while Ryan McIntyre thinks Denver struggles stepping up from the Summit.

The full order of finish lines up more than you'd expect. Both have Santa Clara second behind Herb Sendek, Pacific fourth thanks to Dave Smart and a backcourt with Jason Edwards from Providence and Jayden Winston from Manhattan, San Francisco fifth and San Diego sixth. The split comes up top, where Cannabis Capper goes Seattle first and Ryan McIntyre says somebody has to knock off St. Mary's before he'll believe it.

Awards are split too. Cannabis Capper has Santa Clara winning the tournament in Vegas, David Castillo for Player of the Year and Chris Victor for Coach of the Year. Ryan McIntyre goes with a clean sweep on the Gaels, Joshua Dent for Player of the Year and McConnell for Coach of the Year. Both agree this is probably a one-bid league.
