History. Made. In San Francisco.
The Golden State Valkyries took down the Seattle Storm 76–70 in the 2025 WNBA Commissioner's Cup — becoming the fastest expansion team to five wins in WNBA history. Not just any five wins either. A dominant, wire-to-wire performance in front of a sellout crowd of 18,064 at Chase Center that the Valkyries never gave away.
Kayla Thornton delivered her third consecutive double-double — 22 points and 12 rebounds — tying her career high and hitting all three of the Valkyries' made threes when her team needed them most. Rookie Carla Leite was a problem all night, finishing with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and breaking the tie in the first quarter with a layup the Valkyries never gave back. Veronica Burton quietly ran the show with a game-high 9 assists and 4 steals.
Golden State built a 22-point lead, withstood a Seattle push late, and closed it out like a team that knows exactly who they are.
