Saints are going to Wembley again!
In Episode 380 of the Total Saints Podcast, Martin Starke is joined by Steve Grant, Glen de la Cour and Alfie House to look back on a dramatic night at St Mary’s, as Southampton beat Middlesbrough 2-1 after extra time to reach the Championship play-off final against Hull City.
The panel discuss Shea Charles’ late cross-shot winner, Ross Stewart’s important first-half header, the atmosphere inside St Mary’s, Flynn Downes being left out of the starting XI, Saints’ fitness levels in extra time, and whether Tonda Eckert’s side deserved the win over the two legs.
There’s also plenty of discussion around the flashpoints from the game, including the Taylor Harwood-Bellis/Luke Ayling incident, the ball boy controversy, Andy Madley’s refereeing performance, and the multiple penalty shouts that went unanswered.
And, inevitably, the panel discuss the ongoing Southampton/Middlesbrough spying controversy, the Daily Mail photo, the wider questions around the case, and the nagging doubt it has left hanging over what should otherwise be a brilliant week for Saints fans.
We’ll be back on Sunday night at 7pm for a special pre-Wembley podcast ahead of the Championship play-off final against Hull City.
