Nick Richards recently sat down with the Miami Herald and opened up about why he chose to join the Miami Heat — and his message should have Heat fans excited.

After having multiple teams pass on him, Richards is coming to Miami with a chip on his shoulder, something to prove, and the motivation to show the league what he’s capable of when his opportunity comes.

And honestly, this is exactly the type of mentality you want from a player joining the Miami Heat.

I’ve said this multiple times on the channel: Nick Richards is not coming to Miami expecting to be a consistent rotational player every single night. His role is much more valuable than that.

He’s an insurance policy and emergency big man who gives Miami legitimate size, athleticism, rebounding, rim protection, and physicality if one of the Heat’s primary big men goes down with an injury.

The biggest thing about Richards is that he doesn’t need to be a 25-minute-per-game player to make an impact. If Miami needs him, he’s capable of stepping into a bigger role and giving this team valuable minutes.

And now he’s coming to Miami with something to prove.
