Alex Ovechkin has made it official: the 2026-27 NHL season will be his last. Morning Cuppa Hockey reacts to Ovechkin’s retirement announcement, what his legendary career has meant to the NHL and what to expect from one final season with the Washington Capitals.

The guys also get into the Ottawa Senators’ strong start without Brady Tkachuk and how Jake Sanderson’s injury could impact them, plus the early struggles for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Then NHL Insider David Pagnotta joins the show to dive into the latest news and rumours from around the league, including the growing debate around no-trade and no-movement clauses after Gary Bettman’s comments and Brad Marchand’s response, whether Elias Pettersson’s strong start has changed his trade value or Vancouver’s willingness to move him, the latest surrounding Simon Edvinsson in Detroit, whether there’s anything to Dylan Larkin and the Florida Panthers, and where things stand with Connor Hellebuyck as the Winnipeg Jets continue to win while he remains out of the lineup.

All that and more on a new episode of Morning Cuppa Hockey!
