The Kansas City Current defeated the Washington Spirit, 2-1, on Sunday night thanks to goals from Lo'eau LaBonta and Vanessa DiBernardo.
The visiting Spirit jumped out in front after just 12 minutes as Clara Luvanga put them ahead, but Kansas City responded with two goals in three minutes just two minutes later to flip the script. First, Lo'eau LaBonta found the back of the net in the 14th minute before Vanessa DiBernardo finished a pass from Croix Bethune in the 17th minute to give them the go-ahead goal. With the assist, Bethune also set a new single-season assist record (11) previously set by Tobin Heath in 2016.
The two sides traded chances throughout the remainder of the match, but neither would add to the scoresheet as Kansas City held on to pick up a big home win.
