The Cincinnati Reds did it again Monday night—and not in the way their fans were hoping. Despite building an early 3-0 lead, the Reds watched another game slip away as the Milwaukee Brewers stormed back for a 5-3 victory. It was yet another frustrating chapter in what has become an all-too-familiar story whenever these two National League Central rivals meet.

For five innings, Cincinnati looked to be in complete control. Nick Lodolo delivered a strong outing on the mound, and the offense found just enough timely hitting to put pressure on Milwaukee. Elly De La Cruz added a towering home run that appeared to give the Reds some breathing room, and it looked as though Cincinnati might finally turn the tide against a Brewers team that has consistently had its number.
Then everything unraveled.
The Brewers chipped away with runs in the sixth and seventh innings before Joey Ortiz crushed a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth. Suddenly, a game the Reds had controlled was gone. Once again, Milwaukee capitalized on late opportunities while Cincinnati's bullpen couldn't hold the lead. Trevor Megill closed the door in the ninth, leaving Reds fans shaking their heads after another missed opportunity.
What makes the loss even more frustrating is that it followed a recent series in Cincinnati where the Brewers dominated, exposing many of the same issues. Strong starting pitching has too often been wasted by inconsistent offense and late-game collapses. The Reds have shown flashes of being a competitive club, but until they find a way to finish games against quality opponents like Milwaukee, they'll continue to fall short.
For Reds fans, the script is becoming painfully predictable. Early optimism gives way to late disappointment, while the Brewers continue to prove why they're among the National League's most disciplined and resilient teams. If Cincinnati hopes to stay relevant in the division race, these are exactly the kinds of games they simply cannot afford to keep losing.
