Series Context
The Giants have controlled the first two games of this series by tight scores of 5-0 and 3-1. San Francisco's pitching staff has completely stifled the Cincinnati bats, holding them to just a single run over the last two matchups. In fact, the Reds went 23 consecutive innings without scoring before Sal Stewart broke the drought with a solo home run in the ninth inning on Tuesday. Despite losing their starting pitchers early in both prior games, the Giants bullpen stepped up massively, covering 13.2 innings while giving up just one run.
Pitching Matchup
The Reds turn to left-hander Nick Lodolo (5.04 ERA) to stop the bleeding. Lodolo enters this afternoon looking to bounce back from a tough outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will need to navigate a spacious park notorious for suppressing offense and avoid giving up early hard contact.
San Francisco counters with right-hander Landen Roupp. While Roupp has pitched reasonably well individually this year—pacing the team with 130 strikeouts—the Giants have struggled to secure wins when he takes the mound, dropping six consecutive starts in his outings.
Outlook
Cincinnati enters the finale at 62-71, watching their fading wild-card hopes slip further away. Meanwhile, the 54-78 Giants are hoping to use the momentum from this series to snap out of their second-half doldrums. With Lodolo on the mound for Cincy and a cooler day-game environment by the bay, expect a low-scoring battle where both bullpens could again play a decisive role.
