Beyond the Court the Valkyries Are Building Something That Will Last Generations

Alexandria Jenkins was 13 years old when her father was diagnosed with heart failure. In that moment she made a decision: the only thing she could do to help him was to pursue higher education. That decision is now taking her to Howard University on a 15,000 dollar HBCU scholarship presented by the Golden State Valkyries and JP Morgan Chase. Alexandria grew up in the Bay Area and wants to become a cardiologist. Not just for herself. For people like her father. She wants to give back to her community in the most impactful way possible and medicine is the path she has chosen to do it.

The road was not always easy. She found herself in spaces where she had to educate her own teachers and classmates about what an HBCU even was. That experience did not stop her.
