City moved 11 points clear at the top of the WSL table with a devastating display at the Etihad Stadium.
The victory was underpinned by a Kerolin hat-trick, her first for City and the first time a player has scored a treble against the reigning WSL champions in the competition’s history.
The Brazilian opened the scoring early on after her deflected effort squeezed past Hannah Hampton, with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw firing home a second before the break.
Kerolin once again took centre stage after the restart, dinking the ball over Hampton after running through one-on-one, before tapping home Lauren Hemp’s pass to make it four.
Chelsea then hit back through Alyssa Thompson’s well-taken finish, only for Vivianne Miedema to complete the scoring with a flick-on from a corner.
The win moved City 12 points ahead of the visitors, who drop to third behind Manchester United.
