The Golden State Valkyries opened the playoffs with a statement. Playing their first postseason game at Chase Center, Golden State overwhelmed the Dallas Wings 104- 80 behind a suffocating defensive performance and a record-setting offensive night, crossing the century mark for the first time this season.

From the very first possession, Gabby Williams stalked Paige Bueckers for all 94 feet, setting the tone for a defense that was ready for the physicality of the postseason. Williams and Tiffany Hayes went shot for shot with Bueckers in the first quarter, combining for 14 points as Golden State took a 21- 20 lead. Then the Valkyries blew the game open. Hayes and company aggressively trapped Bueckers in the second quarter, forcing rushed shots and turnovers, while Golden State outscored Dallas 37- 11 in the frame, the most points the team has scored in any quarter this season. Cecilia Zandalasini poured in 12 second-quarter points on her way to a team high of 22, and the Valkyries led 58- 31 at the half.

Hayes finished with 21 points, Williams added 20, and Veronica Burton and Kayla Thornton each scored 10. Thornton turned back the clock with a quick burst in the third quarter as the lead grew to as many as 33. Head Coach Natalie Nakase leaned on a nine-player rotation that reflects the strength-in-numbers identity that defined the regular season.

A sellout crowd of 18,064 in violet shirts roared for two hours, a full year after the Valkyries were displaced to San Jose during their first playoff run. This time, Ballhalla was home.
