China vs Vietnam | Quarter Finals Highlights | AVC Women's Continental Championship 2026. China advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 AVC Women’s Continental Championship with a convincing 3–0 victory over Vietnam in the quarterfinals. The host nation won the match 25–15, 25–22, 25–13 on August 28, 2026, at the Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium in Tianjin, China.

China entered the quarterfinal as the undefeated winner of Pool A after recording straight-set victories over Iraq, Iran and Chinese Taipei. Vietnam finished third in Pool C after defeating Hong Kong but losing to Korea and Japan, qualifying for the knockout stage as one of the two best third-placed teams.

China started the match with Wu Mengjie and Zhuang Yushan as its outside hitters, Wang Yuanyuan and Chen Houyu in the middle, captain Gong Xiangyu at opposite, Xie Shengyu as setter and Wang Mengjie as libero.

The opening set was initially competitive, with Vietnam staying close at 8–7. China then began applying much greater pressure from the service line while using its height and strength at the net. A long scoring run allowed the hosts to establish a double-digit advantage, while Vietnam struggled to consistently overcome China’s organized block. China comfortably closed the opening set 25–15.

Vietnam produced its best volleyball in the second set. China initially moved ahead 10–5 after Chen Houyu created serious problems with her serve, including consecutive aces. Vietnam refused to surrender and gradually reduced the deficit through determined defense, improved attacking and increased pressure on China’s reception.

Vietnam eventually tied the score at 21–21, forcing China to respond under genuine pressure for the first time in the match. Zhuang Yushan delivered an important attack during the decisive closing stretch, and China stabilized its play to win the second set 25–22. Wu Mengjie later admitted that China had not found its best rhythm during this part of the match and praised Vietnam for playing with great energy and determination.

China quickly regained complete control in the third set, establishing an early 6–2 advantage and forcing Vietnam to call a timeout. The hosts improved their attacking efficiency and produced another major scoring run during the middle of the set. China eventually reached 24–12 and converted its second match point through Tang Xin’s powerful attack from the left side, completing the set 25–13 and securing the match in straight sets.

Wu Mengjie and Zhuang Yushan were China’s joint leading scorers with 18 points each. Zhuang recorded 15 attacking points and three blocks, while Wu scored all 18 of her points in attack. Gong Xiangyu and Wang Yuanyuan contributed eight points apiece, Chen Houyu added seven, Yang Shuming scored five and Tang Xin finished with three points. Pham Quynh Huong led Vietnam with 11 points, including two blocks.

China dominated the most important statistical categories, finishing with a massive 56–32 advantage in attacking points, a 6–5 edge in blocks and a 7–2 advantage in service aces. However, China committed 11 unforced errors, compared with only six from Vietnam. Those mistakes, combined with Vietnam’s fighting defense and improved attacking, were the main reasons the second set became so close.

The victory improved China’s tournament record to four wins from four matches without losing a single set. China advanced to face Iran in the semifinals, a team it had already defeated 3–0 during the preliminary phase.

Vietnam’s campaign ended in the quarterfinals after a courageous performance, particularly during the highly competitive second set. However, China’s superior attacking power, service pressure, blocking strength and squad depth ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.
