The Cincinnati Bengals could be active before the 2026 NFL trade deadline, but whether they make a significant move will likely depend on their record, defensive performance, and position in the AFC playoff race over the next several weeks.

For Cincinnati, the biggest argument in favor of making a trade is the opportunity to maximize the prime years of quarterback Joe Burrow and an offense built to compete with the league’s best. When a team has an elite quarterback, standing pat while obvious weaknesses remain can be a costly decision. If the Bengals believe they have a legitimate postseason opportunity, adding an established defensive player could be worth the draft capital.
The secondary is an area worth watching, particularly at cornerback. Cincinnati could explore the trade market for an experienced defender who can improve coverage and provide depth. Strengthening the defensive backfield would give the Bengals more flexibility against the high-powered passing offenses they could encounter during a playoff run.
The Bengals could also explore adding a running back or another defensive contributor, depending on injuries and the performance of their current roster. However, a cornerback acquisition may be the more logical option if defensive inconsistency remains a concern.
Cincinnati recently demonstrated its potential with a victory over Miami on October 11, improving its record to 3-2. If the team continues winning, management may feel more pressure to strengthen the roster rather than wait until the offseason. However, the Bengals must weigh the cost of any deal. Surrendering valuable draft picks for a marginal upgrade would be counterproductive.
Ultimately, I believe Cincinnati has a realistic chance of making at least one trade before the November 10 deadline. My prediction is that the Bengals pursue a modest defensive upgrade, particularly in the secondary, rather than sacrifice significant draft capital for a superstar. A deal is far from guaranteed, but with Burrow leading the offense, improving the defense could be the move that helps Cincinnati make a serious playoff push.
