Coach Nick: Players Actually Asked to Keep Practicing Defense - Here's Why
Keep the session moving with another watch from the same channel.
Charge drills get overhyped for no reason. I don't need 15 guys on the sideline clapping while one kid throws his body into a pad. We take charges on air every single day as part of our defensive warm up, mirror drills, on ball work, all of it.
The whole point is desensitizing players to contact. So many guys are scared to fall down, scared to hit the floor, and they don't realize how tough their bodies actually are until you show them. Once they learn that falling is normal and they can pop right back up, taking a charge in a live game stops feeling like some heroic sacrifice.
I don't build it up like it's a monster feat either. We take a charge nearly every game because it's just part of our defense, not because we made it the number one play on the cut up after going five games without one. Normalize it and your guys will actually do it when it counts. #shorts
