Jets and NHL announce consolidation of Winnipeg Jets’ history

WINNIPEG, Sept. 24, 2026 – The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, announced today that the statistical history of the Winnipeg Jets now will include both iterations of the franchise. As a result, the Jets’ history now encompasses their first stint in Winnipeg (1979-96) as well as their years as the Atlanta Thrashers (1999-2011) and their seasons in Winnipeg since 2011-12.

The statistical history of the inactive Coyotes franchise only will encompass its years in Arizona (1996-2024) and therefore will not be included in the Jets’ history.

These changes are reflected in the statistical sections of NHL.com, the NHL app and the Jets’ official website.

“Statistics and records are more than numbers – they capture the milestones, achievements and memories that define the history of our game and the communities that support it,” said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. “We respect the Jets’ commitment to honoring their franchise’s journey and are pleased that the full history of NHL hockey in Winnipeg now can be celebrated as one continuous story.”

The consolidation of the Jets’ history results in changes to several franchise records, including new all-time leaders in goals (Dale Hawerchuk, 379), assists (Thomas Steen, 553) and points (Hawerchuk, 929). Current Jets forward Mark Scheifele (372-535—907), who previously was the franchise leader in goals and points and ranked second in assists, will have the chance to surpass all three marks in 2026-27.

These and other franchise records have been updated and can be followed via the Jets’ franchise section of Records.NHL.com.

For our fans, these players and these moments always have been part of the same Winnipeg Jets story, and we’re pleased that our official records now will reflect that.”

The Jets are set to begin their 16th season in Winnipeg since relocating from Atlanta in 2011, joining the 17 seasons the original Jets spent in the city after entering the NHL in 1979. They rank 10th in the League in regular season wins since 2011-12 (610), sit seventh in that category since 2016-17 (434) and led the NHL with 154 regular season victories during a three-year stretch from 2022-23 through 2024-25. The Jets additionally have made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in seven of the past nine seasons and will play host to one of the marquee events of the 2026-27 NHL campaign when they take on the Montreal Canadiens in the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg on Sunday, Oct. 25 (6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET, SN, TVAS, TNT, truTV, HBO MAX).
