Audrey Werro ran 1:53.80 at the Paris Diamond League to win the women's 800m and continues her assault on the oldest world record in track. The time is a Diamond League record, a meet record, a world lead, a Swiss national record, and her third sub-1:54 of the 2026 season.
She is the only woman in history with more than one sub-1:54 to her name. The world record, Jarmila Kratochvilova's 1:53.28 from 1983, is 0.52 seconds away.
It was an extraordinary race even beyond Werro. Five athletes ran personal bests. Femke Broeders-Bol went 1:55.60 for second, French runner Anaïs Bourgoin ran 1:55.65 for a national record in third, and the full top six all finished inside 1:57.01.
In this video, we break down what 1:53.80 actually tells us about the world record threat.
