OFFICIAL: Tim Anderson Announces Retirement After 10 MLB Seasons (2026)

Earlier today, Tim Anderson officially announced his retirement after 10 seasons (2016-2025) in the major leagues.

The Chicago White Sox today announced the “Return of the Southside,” presented by United Airlines. The celebration honors two-time All-Star and 2019 American League batting champion Tim Anderson during a special pregame ceremony on Thursday, September 17 before the 6:40 p.m. first pitch vs. Detroit.

Selected by the White Sox in the first round (17th overall) in 2013, Anderson, 33, spent eight seasons (2016-2023) in Chicago, batting .282/.312/.422 (1,021-3,622) with 179 doubles, 18 triples, 98 home runs, 338 RBI, 528 runs scored and 117 stolen bases over 895 games.

Anderson was the first player in White Sox history with three consecutive top five finishes in the AL batting race (2019-2021), leading the league in 2019 (.335). He helped lead the team to two postseason appearances (2020-21) and was named to the AL All-Star team in 2021-22, making the starting lineup in 2022.

In the first-ever MLB “Field of Dreams” game on August 12, 2021, Anderson hit a walk-off, two-run homer into the cornfields in right field to help the White Sox top the Yankees, 9-8.

Throughout his career, Anderson and his wife, Bria, prioritized community, representation and giving back. The couple established Anderson’s League of Leaders, a community outreach program to support children impacted by violence, and following the tragic loss of his close friend, Branden Moss, established a scholarship in his honor to support youth affected by gun violence. They repeatedly championed opportunities for young people of color, supporting the White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) program, participating in nationwide gun violence awareness initiatives, such as Wear Orange, sponsoring annual immersion trips for ACE players, and organizing back-to-school events that provided haircuts and school supplies to local youth.
