Jakob Ingebrigtsen won his fourth consecutive European 5000m title on the opening night of the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham — running 13:15.29 with a 54.94 last 400 to overtake Florian Bremm on the home straight. It was his first race in 11 months, following an Achilles injury that ended his 2025 World Championships in Tokyo in the heats and kept him from competition through the rest of the year.
He is now unbeaten in European finals across his career. Fifteen European gold medals. Fourth straight title in this event, dating back to 2018 when his older brother Henrik took silver in the same race.
