One of the biggest stories has been Cincinnati’s dramatically improved defense. The Bengals have eight sacks through two games, tied for the NFL lead, while allowing only 74.5 rushing yards per game. The rebuilt defensive line has been at the center of that improvement. Jonathan Allen has recorded a sack in each game, while Dexter Lawrence made a critical fourth-down stop during last week’s 20-6 victory in Houston. Pittsburgh has already surrendered six sacks, creating an opportunity for Cincinnati’s front to disrupt Aaron Rodgers.

Pittsburgh’s offense desperately needs a response. The Steelers have averaged only 11.5 points and 175 passing yards through two games and have converted just 5 of 25 third downs. Rodgers and the offense failed to score a touchdown against New England last week, making the matchup between Pittsburgh’s offensive line and Cincinnati’s defensive front particularly important.

On the other side, Joe Burrow faces the familiar challenge of dealing with T.J. Watt and Pittsburgh’s pass rush. Watt already has 3.5 sacks, while Alex Highsmith has three. Pittsburgh has seven sacks as a team and has held opponents to just 154.5 passing yards per game.

That sets up an intriguing battle with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Chase rebounded from a quiet opener with seven catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns against Houston, while Higgins has 154 receiving yards through two games. Chase has historically produced against Pittsburgh, totaling 687 yards and six touchdowns in eight career meetings.

Injuries could impact Pittsburgh’s secondary, with Joey Porter Jr. and Jamel Dean both listed as questionable. Cincinnati will be without Andrei Iosivas, while defensive tackle B.J. Hill is doubtful.

Division games between these teams rarely lack intensity, and this one carries immediate significance. Cincinnati has an opportunity to remain unbeaten, earn its first divisional victory and continue establishing its rebuilt defense, while Pittsburgh is trying to prevent an early 1-2 start and get Rodgers and its offense moving in the right direction.
