The former No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft is officially joining the Miami Heat organization after spending last season in the G League with the Wisconsin Herd and Sioux Falls Skyforce.
But there’s a BIG question surrounding this move:
WILL DENNIS SMITH JR. ACTUALLY PLAY FOR THE MIAMI HEAT? 👀🔥
According to the latest reports, Smith is not expected to join Miami for the beginning of training camp. Instead, the Exhibit 10 deal appears designed to help Miami retain his G League rights, with Smith expected to begin the season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Smith brings plenty of NBA experience to the organization. Over 326 NBA regular-season games, he has averaged 9.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
Last season, Smith spent time in the G League with Wisconsin and Sioux Falls. Across 32 G League games, he averaged approximately 8.1 points, 5.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
So what exactly is Miami’s plan?
Could Dennis Smith Jr. eventually get another opportunity with the Heat?
Could his defense, athleticism, ball-handling and NBA experience eventually earn him a call-up?
