Chelsea were held to a disappointing draw at home by a stubborn Hull City side and Simon and Manny break down a performance that exposed all the familiar weaknesses — midfield problems, defensive fragility and a lack of control in key moments.
But the hosts also offer some crucial perspective. This is a game Chelsea would have lost last season. The bad habits and the mentality issues that plagued this squad are still there, but they are being slowly worked out, and Simon and Manny make the case for genuine patience with Xabi Alonso while he fixes what he inherited.
There is serious praise for Morgan Rogers, who continues to look like the signing of the summer, alongside Cole Palmer back at his brilliant best and Joao Pedro causing problems throughout. The attacking core of this Chelsea side is exciting.
The hosts are far less forgiving elsewhere. Malo Gusto and Wesley Fofana should not be starting for a Chelsea team with ambitions of challenging at the top, and Simon and Manny explain exactly why both need to be moved out of the first XI.
Plus a preview of a tough Friday night trip to Brentford before the international break.
Let us know in the comments — do you agree that Gusto and Fofana should be dropped?
