Türkiye vs Brazil | Gold Match Highlights | Women's VNL 2026. Türkiye claimed the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Nations League title after defeating Brazil 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21) in a thrilling Gold Medal Match in Macau, China. After dropping the opening set, the reigning champions responded with remarkable composure, winning the next three sets to lift their second VNL trophy after their historic triumph in 2023.
Brazil made the stronger start to the final behind the outstanding attacking of Ana Cristina. The South Americans built a comfortable 23-18 lead in the opening set before Türkiye mounted a late comeback, scoring four consecutive points to close the gap. However, substitute opposite Kisy Nascimento delivered the decisive point as Brazil held on to take the first set 25-23.
Türkiye responded immediately in the second set as Melissa Vargas began to dominate the match. The superstar opposite repeatedly punished Brazil with powerful spikes from all areas of the court, while Hande Baladın contributed crucial attacks and a huge late block that helped Türkiye edge the set 25-23 and level the match.
The third set proved to be the turning point of the championship. Both teams exchanged leads throughout an incredibly tense battle, with neither side able to create much separation. Vargas produced one of the greatest sets ever seen in a VNL Final, scoring an incredible 11 points. Türkiye eventually claimed the set 26-24 after Brazil's Ana Cristina sent the decisive attack just wide, putting the Turkish side one set away from the championship.
Brazil refused to surrender in the fourth set. Türkiye built an early six-point advantage before Brazil fought all the way back to lead 19-18. Once again, Melissa Vargas delivered in the biggest moments, while setter Elif Şahin brilliantly controlled Türkiye's offence. Fittingly, Şahin ended the match with a clever second-touch dump, sealing a 25-21 victory and sparking celebrations as Türkiye were crowned 2026 Women's Volleyball Nations League champions.
Melissa Vargas was unquestionably the star of the final. She finished as both the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the highest scorer in the championship match, delivering one of the greatest individual performances in Women's VNL Final history. Her dominance throughout the final three sets completely changed the course of the match and proved decisive in Türkiye's title-winning effort.
Brazil once again demonstrated why they remain one of the world's strongest volleyball nations. Ana Cristina delivered another spectacular performance and led Brazil's offence throughout the match, while the team showed tremendous resilience by erasing a six-point deficit in the fourth set. Despite another outstanding tournament, Brazil finished as VNL runners-up for the fifth time and are still searching for their first Volleyball Nations League title.
Türkiye's victory was built on several key tactical adjustments after the opening set. Their blocking became far more effective against Brazil's outside hitters, their serving placed constant pressure on Brazil's reception, and their transition offence became increasingly dangerous thanks to Vargas' unstoppable attacking. Most importantly, Türkiye executed better in the closing stages of every tight set, consistently making the decisive plays under pressure.
The final also highlighted the contributions of several Turkish stars beyond Vargas. Hande Baladın produced important kills and one of the biggest blocks of the match, while Elif Şahin orchestrated the offence brilliantly and scored the championship-winning point. Together, they helped Türkiye complete another historic chapter in the country's volleyball history.
The victory gave Türkiye their second Volleyball Nations League championship after first winning the tournament in 2023, further establishing the team among the elite powers in international women's volleyball. Melissa Vargas' MVP performance throughout the Finals will be remembered as one of the greatest individual displays ever seen in the competition.
