Putnam is a tall, flame-throwing righthander with long levers and impressive arm speed, and he struck out the side in his only inning of instructional league work. His fastball sat 93-96 mph and touched 98 with tailing/bore life in on righthanded hitters’ hands. Its movement is unique given Putnam’s high three-quarters slot, and that seemed to throw hitters off the scent.
