Defending Volleyball Nations League champions Poland completed their Week 2 campaign with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Argentina in one of the most entertaining matches of the 2026 VNL. Played on June 28 in front of more than 11,000 fans in Gliwice, Poland, the home team had to recover after losing an unforgettable opening set before taking control of the match and securing another important win in the race for the VNL Finals.

The match immediately made Volleyball Nations League history thanks to an extraordinary first set that Argentina won 50-48. The opening set lasted far longer than a typical volleyball set, with both teams saving multiple set points and exchanging spectacular rallies before Argentina finally converted one of their opportunities. With a combined 98 points, the set became the highest-scoring set ever played in Volleyball Nations League history.

Argentina entered the match full of confidence and showed excellent volleyball from the very beginning. Their aggressive serving, disciplined blocking, and efficient transition offense allowed them to challenge one of the world's strongest teams despite playing away from home. After winning the historic opening set, Argentina looked capable of pulling off one of the biggest upsets of Week 2.

Poland, however, responded like true defending champions. Instead of allowing the heartbreaking first set to affect their performance, they immediately raised their level in every aspect of the game. The second set proved just as dramatic, with Poland narrowly escaping 26-24 after another tense finish. Winning that crucial second set completely changed the momentum of the match.

From that point onward, Poland controlled the contest much more comfortably. Their blocking became more effective, their serves placed increasing pressure on Argentina's reception, and their attack operated with greater efficiency. Poland won the third set 25-19 before closing the fourth 25-20 to complete an impressive comeback victory.

One of Poland's biggest strengths throughout the match was the depth of their roster. Even after the exhausting opening set, they continued rotating fresh attackers while maintaining a consistently high level of serving, blocking, and defense. Their patience during long rallies gradually wore Argentina down both physically and mentally.

Although Argentina suffered another defeat, the South Americans delivered one of their strongest performances of the tournament. They matched Poland for long stretches, played fearless volleyball, and demonstrated once again why they remain one of the toughest opponents in international volleyball. However, maintaining the same level after the emotionally draining opening sets proved impossible against the defending champions.

The victory improved Poland's overall Volleyball Nations League record to 6-2 after two weeks of competition, strengthening their position in the standings and bringing them another step closer to qualification for the 2026 VNL Finals. Argentina dropped to 2-6, making their road to the Finals significantly more difficult.
