Gretchen Walsh made it a night to remember in Rome, kicking off the last finals session with a world record. The sprinting ace won the women's 50 free final in 23.55, breaking her teammate Kate Douglass' week-old world record of 23.59.
After the race, Walsh seemed energized by the momentum she has built heading into the LA2028 Olympic Games. After many doubted her abilities in the LCM pool earlier in her career, the Virginia grad stated emphatically, "I'm here... I'm going to try to keep breaking world records in everything".
