Coach Larry: Stop Teaching Slide, Slide, Slide. Let Players Figure Out Defense

Coach Larry is onto something here that I think gets overlooked for a hundred years of coaching. Slide, slide, die, then get yelled at for getting beat while doing exactly what you were told. That's not defense, that's just following a script that doesn't work.⁣

Letting kids figure out how to stay in front of the ball without rigid structure isn't soft coaching, it's smart coaching. Common sense says you should be faster than a guy dribbling a ball. Let them prove it their own way.⁣

I'll take the ridicule on this one too. Rigid slide patterns have limited more defenders than they've ever developed. #shorts
