Thailand 🇹🇭 vs Australia 🇦🇺 | Highlights | AVC Men's Continental Championship 2026

Thailand vs Australia | Highlights | AVC Men's Continental Championship 2026. Thailand faced Australia in the quarterfinals of the AVC Men’s Continental Championship 2026 on September 10 in Fukuoka, Japan. Australia produced a powerful and disciplined performance to defeat Thailand 3–0, winning the match with set scores of 25–22, 26–24 and 25–19.

Despite the straight-set result, Thailand competed closely throughout the opening two sets. Australia remained composed during the decisive moments of the first set and secured it 25–22. Thailand then produced its strongest challenge in the second set, fighting point for point and pushing Australia beyond the standard 25-point mark. However, Australia handled the pressure better and claimed the crucial set 26–24.

After narrowly losing the second set, Thailand struggled to regain the same momentum. Australia took control of the third set with its physical strength, powerful attacks and excellent defense above the net, closing it 25–19 to complete the sweep.

Australia’s blocking was one of the biggest differences between the two teams. The Australians recorded 10 winning blocks compared with Thailand’s four, repeatedly slowing down the Thai attackers and creating opportunities in transition.

Lorenzo Pope was the leading scorer of the match with 17 points. The Australian outside hitter attacked with an impressive 56% success rate while also contributing two blocks and one service ace. Opposite Lincoln Alexander Williams delivered another excellent performance with 15 points, including two aces and one block.

Thailand still had three players finish in double figures. Outside hitter Thanat Bamrungphakdi led the team with 15 points, all scored in attack. Opposite Napadet Bhinijdee contributed 13 points and fired three service aces, while Chaiwat Thungkham added 12 points, including one ace and one block.

Thailand entered this quarterfinal with plenty of confidence after finishing first in Pool C with an undefeated 3–0 record. They began the tournament with a convincing 3–0 victory over Qatar before earning dramatic five-set wins against Korea and Chinese Taipei.

The Thai team was attempting to reach the Asian Championship semifinals for the first time in its history. Although Thailand showed fighting spirit and competed strongly during the opening two sets, Australia’s height, blocking quality and greater consistency ultimately ended that historic run.

With this victory, Australia advanced to the semifinals of the AVC Men’s Continental Championship 2026 and moved one victory away from securing a medal and qualifying for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup. The continental champion would also secure Asia’s qualification place for the men’s volleyball tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Final result: Thailand 0–3 Australia

Set scores: 22–25, 24–26, 19–25
