Australia's Lani Pallister has been on a heater in Irvine this week, winning the 200 free, placing 2nd in the 1500, and helping Australia's 4x200 relay to gold. Last night, she continued her meet in the 400 free, beating Katie Ledecky head-to-head to win gold and posting a faster time (3:58.42) than Summer McIntosh (4:00.58), the world record holder, who competed in the B-Final after finishing outside the top-8 in prelims.
After the race, Pallister gave props to Katie Ledecky, arguably the greatest female swimmer of all time, saying she's learned from her over the years that "it's you vs the clock".
