The Spurs' Timeout Confusion Cost Them the Series — Wemby Was Never in the Right Spot

The Spurs came out of that timeout completely scrambled, and it cost them the series.
Wemby ends up on Bridges above the three point line when his entire job is to protect the paint. Nobody picks up OG. And when the shot goes up, your best rebounder and rim protector is nowhere near the rim.
I cannot convince myself that putback happens if Wemby stays home. That's the whole system. Keep him down, double Brunson, protect the glass. The confusion wiped all of it out in about four seconds.
To their credit, the late lob design was smart. Using Wemby as the screener to throw off the read was a clever wrinkle. Mike Brown just made a smarter adjustment putting a long-armed guy on the ball, and the deflection killed it.
But you simply cannot have that level of disorganization out of a timeout in a series-deciding moment. That's the kind of thing that ends seasons. #shorts
