Olympic champion Bobby Finke had a bit of an up-and-down meet in Ft Lauderdale this past weekend. On the first day, he was out strong in the 1500 but faded over the final 500, getting passed by William Mulgrew and ultimately finishing 2nd in 15:13.62. Finke turned it around the next night, however, when he won the 400 Free in 3:51.09, touching just ahead of Mulgrew this time.
After finishing 3rd in the 400 IM (4:19.07) to Leon Marchand and Carson Foster on Day 3, Finke squared off with Mulgrew one last time on the final night in the 800 free. Neck-and-neck the entire race, Finke did what he does best on the final 50, coming home in 26.18 on the final 50 to touch first in 7:53.17 to Mulgrew's 7:53.34.
After winning the 400 free, Finke spoke to SwimSwam about how his training, recovery, and mentality have had to change as he's aged.
