Terry Francona on the Cincinnati Reds Travel Issues

The Cincinnati Reds endured a difficult travel ordeal before arriving in Milwaukee.

The team’s late-night charter from Los Angeles was forced to divert to Las Vegas because of engine trouble, leading to an unexpected layover at the Bellagio. The Reds resumed their trip on Thursday’s scheduled off day before finally reaching Milwaukee.

After Friday’s game, manager Terry Francona was asked whether the chaotic travel contributed to the team’s performance.

“If it did, it’s our fault,” Francona said. “I was tired today. I bet the guys were dragging a little bit, but it happens. That’s just part of it.

“I thought our guys handled it really well. I was actually really proud of them. Nobody bitched. Everybody tried to make the best of it. I’ve been places where it doesn’t go like that—where it’s a fiasco. This wasn’t. So if it did get in the way, that’s on us.”
