The Political History Of Celtic Football Club
The Celtic History PodcastEpisode Notes
In light of recent events in Palestine, the age old debate of whether politics and football should mix has resurfaced. Despite my personal view that the Palestinian plight is a humanitarian issues that transcends politics, this podcast looks at the political history of Celtic Football Club.
From wanted Irish Republican Brotherhood members being involved in the founding of the club, to a convicted Fenian being named Patron and invited to lay the first sod of turf at Celtic Park - from public protest against British involvement in the Boer War, to Bob Kelly refusing to play against Ferencvaros due to Soviet Invasions of Czechoslovakia.
Can anyone realistically argue that politics is not a part of Celtic's identity? Make up your own mind with a journey through the political history of the club from 1887 to 1968.
