The history of athletes turned activists in American sports is complicated, we expect them  to be role models for our children but to "Keep the political comments to yourselves. ... Shut up and dribble". Black athletes have always been willing to stand up against racial inequality, most famously: Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown and Muhammed Ali.  In the NBA,  a league that is 75% African-American, that spirit of defiance is now stronger than ever. In light of the recent wave of protests, following the unjust murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor & George Floyd; we decided to take a look at the legacy of social justice advocates in the NBA.
