RED SOX POSTCAST: Sox Walk Off Tigers & are now October Bound

The Red Sox (88-72) came-from-behind and walked off in the Bottom of the 9th Inning with a 4-3 win in the series opener against the Detroit Tigres Friday night at Fenway Park. Ceddanne Rafaela knocked in the winning run with an RBI Triple that scored Romy Gonzalez all the way from 1st Base with the winning run. With the win, the Sox clinch a Wild Card spot and are in the postseason for the first time since 2021. Red Sox 6 relievers combined for 6 scoreless Innings. Aroldis Chapman gave up a leadoff Double in the 9th but left the potential go-ahead run at 3rd by getting 2 strikeouts to work out of the jam.

Harrison on the Hill: Kyle Harrison made his 2nd straight start and was unable to get out of the 4th Inning. Harrison managed to work out of a bases loaded and 1 out jam in the 1st Inning. The 1st 5 hitters for the Tigers reached in the 4th and Harrison was pulled after giving up a 2-run Double to Jahmai Jones that made it 3-0. Justin Slaten and Steven Matz were called up to get the 3 outs and Matz ended up stranding the bases loaded. Harrison was charged with 3 earned runs on 7 Hits. He walked 3 and struck out 6.

Sox at the Dish: The Sox got 1 run back in the Bottom of the 4th Inning. Alex Bregman led off with a Double against Casey Mize and scored on an RBI Single from Masa Yoshida. Mize would get Ceddanne Rafaela to hit into an inning-ending Double Play. The Sox went down 1-2-3 in 4 of the first 6 Innings against Mize, who struck out the side in the 5th Inning. Mize was removed from the game in the 7th after giving up a Double to Ceddanne Rafaela which set up 2nd and 3rd with 1 Out. Nathaniel Lowe pulled the Sox to within a run with a Sacrifice Fly that scored Masa Yoshida from 3rd. Sox tied the game in the 8th. Carlos Narvaez led off with a Single. Nate Eaton pinch ran for Narvaez. Eaton stole 2nd, moved to 3rd on throwing error by the catcher and scored on an RBI Single from Jarren Duran.
