Bruno Guimarães has reportedly told Newcastle he wants Arsenal, and a move worth around £60m would be a major statement — Premier League-proven, prime-age, and exactly the midfield upgrade Mikel Arteta needs to sharpen his title challenge.
Meanwhile Arsenal are closing on goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free deal, a pragmatic signing that provides top-level cover and enables young keeper Tommy Setford to go out on loan and develop through regular minutes.
Finally, Leandro Trossard looks set to join Besiktas for about €20m — a bittersweet but logical sale as Arsenal refresh the squad and balance sentiment against the need to evolve for the next step.
