The Washington Capitals are ramping up for the 2025–26 NHL season as more players arrive in D.C. for informal skates ahead of training camp. Dylan Strome, fresh off a career-best 82-point season, and veteran defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk joined teammates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex this week. Strome, who has developed strong chemistry with Alex Ovechkin as the team’s top-line center, is looking to build on back-to-back scoring-leader seasons, while van Riemsdyk prepares for the final year of his current contract after playing a full 82-game slate in 2024–25.
The team also saw strong progress from forward Sonny Milano, who aims to bounce back after missing most of last season due to injury. Meanwhile, Aliaksei Protas and his younger brother Ilya are preparing for camp after training together this summer, with Ilya coming off a 124-point OHL campaign. Defenseman Rasmus Sandin also drew attention overseas during the NHL/NHLPA European Player Media Tour, reflecting on his growth under head coach Spencer Carbery. With several key players returning and prospects pushing for roles, the Washington Capitals are building momentum toward another competitive season.
