In December 2020, history was made when NFL player and Carolina Panthers star Russell Okung became the first major sportsman to be paid in Bitcoin, with a 50/50 crypto-cash contract worth $13m. Following this feat for cryptocurrency, is it only a matter of time before we see Bitcoin, Dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies introduced into football? If so, how could this affect the football economy? Contract negotiations, club structures and resources, and more significantly, what affect could this have on the rest of the world economy?
