Oilers need a hockey executive overhaul, Part 2

Episode Notes

Hockey Hall of Fame writer Jim Matheson defends his column in which he says the Edmonton Oilers should simply lift the ‘interim’ general manager tag from Keith Gretzky — brother of the Great One, Wayne, who is also an Oilers executive — arguing he knows the players in the organization better than anyone and has developed a solid reputation scouting and plucking talent from the amateur ranks.

Matheson's stance swims against popular opinion, as evidenced by a recent Postmedia Oilers reader survey that found just 14% would hire Keith if they ran the NHL team. His take is also anything but hot with the hordes on social media.

In this episode, Oil Spills host Craig Ellingson talks to Matheson about his thoughts on Keith Gretzky, on the state of Oilers management and executiveness in general, on the Oilers’ draft slot at eighth and about the start of the NHL playoffs.
