Pirates Score 7 Runs… And Still Lose by 4

The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped their third straight game in an 11-7 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, wasting a night where the offense hit three home runs and put up enough runs to win most games.

Jim and Doug break down Braxton Ashcraft’s rough start coming off the bereavement list, Hunter Barco being forced to wear nearly five innings out of the bullpen, and why the Pirates’ middle relief situation is becoming a real concern. They also discuss Oneil Cruz launching his ninth home run of the season, Ryan O’Hearn continuing to produce, Nick Gonzales extending his hitting streak, and Konnor Griffin looking more comfortable at the plate with another impressive homer.

The offense did its job, but four double plays, too many walks, and a depleted bullpen made this one tough to survive. Now the Pirates need Bubba Chandler to come through and stop the slide before this Cardinals series gets away from them.
