Tom Moore has spent almost 40 years around college basketball, working alongside Jim Calhoun, helping build championship teams, becoming a head coach at Quinnipiac, and eventually returning to Storrs with Dan Hurley.
In this episode of The Connecticut Scoreboard Podcast, Tom looks back on his first days at UConn in 1994, his first experience working with Calhoun, being part of UConn's first national championship in 1999, and the decision to eventually become a head coach himself.
Tom also shares his first impressions of Dan Hurley, the similarities and differences between Calhoun and Hurley, what he saw when he returned to UConn during the rebuild, and what it was like being part of the program's incredible recent run under Hurley.
We also go inside his transition from assistant coach to UConn's general manager, what a college basketball GM actually does behind the scenes, how roster building has changed because of the transfer portal and NIL, and the balance between developing players in-house and bringing in transfers.
